The horse, tasked with carrying souls to the afterlife, was closely associated with household spirits. Stables were traditionally inhabited by guardian spirits who, if in good spirits themselves, would groom and braid the horses’ manes during the night. The rooster, charged with driving away malevolent spirits, was often kept in the stables to protect the horses from evil forces.

The medallion depicts a door adorned with a horse, topped by a rooster. It conveys the idea of a protective barrier while also inviting one to cross the threshold into the unknown without fear.

Gold plating refers to a piece of jewellery made from a brass base coated with a layer of gold at least 3 microns thick, applied by electroplating. All Fontennoy rings are plated with a 5-micron layer of 23-carat gold.

Like any surface finish, gold plating requires special care to preserve its shine over time. We recommend removing your jewellery before washing, exercising, or using household cleaning or cosmetic products.

Vermeil is a precious metal made from a 925 silver base coated with a layer of gold at least 5 microns thick, applied by electroplating.

The plating work is entrusted to an expert based in the Doubs region, who ensures that the process incorporates up to 70% recycled gold.

All vermeil pieces are plated with a 5-micron layer of 23-carat gold over a recycled 925 silver base and stamped with a small V.
